Thanksgiving in Barcelona

Hi,

We are considering going to Spain during Thanksgiving (from the west coast in US) for one week. We have never been to Spain. Is this a good or bad idea weather-wise? There is also jetlag to take into account given the short trip (unfortunately this is all the time we can spare).
We were going to use points to fly into Barcelona, but open to traveling South to Andalucia from Barcelona if the weather and activities are going to be that much better.

Please advice!
Thanks.

who knows.
Weather has a habit of changing year in year out.
Bring a bit to cover warmish sun, rain, chilly nights, chilly day time.
Even if you you look at average weather charts you maybe be able to see an average of what has happened.
When you look at those weather statistics remember they are just statistics and no forecast.

it's a good time to go! Barcelona has a moderate climate all year, in November it should be from perhaps upper 40s or low 50s F. at night to mid-60s in daytime. And November is not one of the rainier months.

I don't know what you mean about activities being better in the South. You can read about both places and decide what appeals to you. I would not want to spend a week in one place in Andalucia (ie, a week in Seville), but I probably wouldn't in Barcelona, either, although I've spent 5 days there easily. But going to Andalucia will take up more of your time due to the travel to/from. I really would not go there if you must fly in/out of Barcelona, there are many better places to go that would be closer if you want to see something else. Like Madrid, which is a little colder than Batrcelona, but nothing you shouldn't be able to handle, it's not that much colder. It's not a wet month there, either.

Awesome, thank you!
We already have a long flight and so i would prefer not to travel more if i don't have to. Given we have 6 full days, are there side trips from Barcelona you would recommend?

From the West Coast you can fly into Madrid and then directly take the train to Andalucia which will be not only warmer but also more interesting ! Seville, Cordoba, and Granada - Ole !

Yes, in November I also would recommend going to a couple of the cities in the normally warmer South/Andalucía (Sevilla, Córdoba, Málaga, Granada, Cádiz etc). Barcelona is a fabulous city, but Andalucía is thousands of years of Phoenician, Roman, Jewish, Christian, Moslem and Gitano history and culture hand in hand with modern life on every street corner. Some days here could be the opening to an adventure for a lifetime. Andalucía is "a place where the atmosphere – rather like a good flamenco performance – creeps up and taps you on the shoulder when you least expect it". http://www.lonelyplanet.com/spain/an...a/introduction

I agree it is a wise move not to travel all the time. Travel less and see more!
Day trips are plenty.

I also think that 6 days is a good time to take your time and get to know the city quite well.
Another great article on where to visit in BCN

I went to Barcelona in the first week of November last year. The weather was nice with some rains (but it wasn't bothersome). The temperatures were perfect for me - not too hot and not too cold either. It's not the beach season though. The city is less crowded as its the offseason. I absolutely loved it

I took some pictures so you can get an idea. Hope this helps!

Pavo means turkey

And the word arándano means both blueberry and cranberry.
