Tenative Itinerary-Spain/France

We do not want to rush the trip as we were getting older and it becomes wearing.

First Day-Fly JFK-DUB

2nd Day-Fly DUB-MAD

3rd-6th Days-Madrid. Prado, Toledo, TBD. We will either stay in Las Letras or Salamanca areas. I do not want to stay in Chueca, as it too much like our neighborhood at home.

7th-14th Days-Visit Galicia-Stay with family and friends. We have been there many times, so unsure of any one place to visit. I would like to return to the Costa da Morte Maybe even up to Ribeira Sacra. If anyone has any restaurant recs in Santiago, please let me know, the family rarely eats out.

15th, 16th-Either go to Oviedo or to Ribadesella to see the caves.

17th, 18th, 19th-Either Fuente de or Cangas de Onis. We will take at least one half day hike of at best moderate difficulty. We will probably stay in the parador in either place. I know the people on this board do not like the Fuente de because it is inconveniently located.

20th, 21st-Bilbao-the museum and the city. We have only passed through Bilbao in the past.

22th. Bermeo. A crazy walk across a stepped bridge to a tiny island to see a monastery.

23rd-24th drive to Bayonne and Biarritz.

24th drive to San Sebastian/Donostia-Eating and maybe the aquarium

26th= Train from Donostia to Madrid

27th-Fly MAD-DUB, DUB-JFK

Why Bayonne and Biarritz? I would stick to Spain for this trip.

I agree, especially as you say you don't want to be rushed. That's quite a race up the coast and back, with very little time to get to know either place.

In Bilbao, I thought the Museum of Fine Arts quite good.

Enjoy!

My wife wants to go Bayonne/Biarritz. It is a short drive from Donostia. She walked the Camino in 2008 and started in St. Jean Pied de Port and wanted to return to that area.

Thanks for the Bilbao hint.
