Tell me about your favorite Barcelona budget accommodation

We will be spending 6 nights in Barcelona in late September. We have never been there and I'm ridiculously excited over this trip.

In previous European vacations we have stayed in apartments, but the main driver was that we were travelling with DD and the apartments were a much better deal than a triple room. We thought we would go for a hotel this time since we will not be cooking and we typically only go back to the room when its time to retire for the evening.

I have read through 100's of posts debating one neighboorhood over the other and I'm having a lot of trouble deciding where we want to be: I think I'll love the grand boulevards of Eixample, the quaint little streets of the Barri Goti seem enticing and even the quirkiness of El Borne sounds wonderful. I know I don't want to be in the southern part of El Raval.

So, since I cannot decide based on location I thought I would approach this differently, I'm looking for a great VALUE hotel within half a mile radius of Plaça de Catalunya. Somewhere where I would get more ambiance or space without breaking the bank.

This will be a 3-week long trip so we are trying to keep the expenses as low as possible. The absolute top of the budget is $150 per night for double occupancy, but would prefer lower (please don't smirk or laugh too loudly!). We do not require luxury (obvious with that budget) but just a nice, clean, not grungy, quiet room that has decent hot water pressure in the shower and a comfortable mattress.

So, please tell me about your favorite Barcelona budget accommodation and why do you think it is a good value.
