Taxi versus private car Naples to Sorrento?

We are taking the train from Rome to Naples in September. We would like to take a private car from Naples to our hotel in Sorrento but aren't sure which train we will be taking. We may arrive in Naples at 8:30 or 7:30 PM depending on which Eurostar we are able to catch. I wouldn't want to arrange a private car for 8:30 and then have to wait an hour for it. Alternately I wouldn't arrange one for 7:30 and expect the driver to wait if we didn't arrive until 8:30. It seems like just grabbing a taxi would give us more flexibility. Can anyone tell me the approximate cost of a taxi from Naples train station to Sorrento? I believe a private car would be in the $125 range each way.

Hi CO,

We used Renato Cuomo
www.cuomonet.it [email protected]

He charged us 80E from Naples Centrale to Praiano. To Sorrento should be less than that.

A cab will be more expensive than a limo.

Re your arrival time, on your other thread I suggested you book the 6:45.

Boulder: you're better off arranging for a private car. I would not want to take the first taxi in the taxi queue at Napoli Centrale! Also, the private car is likely to be a Mercedes. Get a firm quote in advance.

Fodorites: be aware that the Circumvesuviana Commuter Rail operates every 30 minutes daily between Naples Centrale and Sorrento, with the last train to Sorrento departing Naples at 21:39. Travel time is 68 minutes (there are many intermediate stops) and fare is Euro 3.10 one way. This is a heavily-traveled commuter train, and basic precautions should be followed to protect against pickpockets, etc.

Slightly 'lower brow'-- but there's a bus that goes directly from the Naples airport to Tasso Sq in the center of Sorrento for e 6. It takes about an hour and goes along the coast.
