Taxi from the airport in Amsterdam
Anyone used taxi to get from the airport to the Krasnapolsky Hotel? How much should be expect to pay? Is there a shuttle similar to one in Paris? Train is out of the question becuase we will have two heavy suitcases.

Topping for Ninotchka. Was thinking of posting a similar question myself. Four of us will arrive in Amsterdam at the airport. I know the train is easy from the airport to Centraal, but with four of us and luggage-- we'll need two regular taxis from Centraal to our hotel (Ambassade), so would it make as much sense to just hire a mini van or something for the four of us all the way from the airport? Sure seems easier that getting four train tickets, dealing with the crowds and the taxi lines at Centraal and then taking two taxis to the hotel. Any other personal information for either of us??

I did not stay in this hotel, but we stayed near the Prinsegracht which was very central. The taxi ride took about 20 - 25 minutes and I think it cost around $30 maximum. When we were leaving Amsterdam, we arrnaged a mini-van from the hotel (Blakes) which worked out well.
To and from Haarlem there is a service which may help you into Amsterdam. I've used them several times. The name is Kramart 'te Voort and the number is +31-23-515-5555. You must make a reservation and they meet you at the Schiphol "Meeting Point" next to the train escallators. The cost is about $10 per person to Haarlem. Schiphol to Haarlem is a little further than to Amsterdam. If Kramart can't take you, ask if they know someone who can; they all speak English.
I've used a regular taxi from the Hague to Schiphol, much further than Amsterdam. The price was about $45, per cab.
John Bermont
www.enjoy-europe.com/cds/holland.htm

Nintchka:
When I was there in June 2001, we took a taxi from the Airport. What I found was that due to amazing amount of road construction going on, it took a lot longer than it should have. Cost about 50 guilders. (Not sure how much it will be in Euros)I have taken the train before but find that after the train you know have a bit of a walk or a short tram ride to the Hotel you are staying at. Enjoy your stay in Amsterdam!
