Taxi from Airport to Old Town Prague
How much should I expect to pay for a taxi from Prague Airport to my hotel in Old Town?
Does the cost vary based on the number of passengers (there will be two of us) or by the amount of luggage (we will each have a rollon suitcase - no checked bags)?
And lastly, will I need Czech Koruna, or are Euros generally accepted in the Czech Republic?
Thanks!

I was there in March, and I arranged for our hotel (Hotel Maximilian) in Old Town to provide the taxi. The cost for two people was Euro 33, and the hotel just added it to our room charge. The cost for us did not vary by number of passengers or suitcase. I definitely thought it was less stressful to go through the hotel if that's a possibility. I will say that the airport was not very busy, so it might be okay to get a cab. However, it's not super close to Old Town. I think it ended up being about 30 minutes. You need Koruna. In some cases, we used Euro, but mainly, we used the Koruna that we were able to exchange in the airport and at our hotel. Good luck!

600kc is about the average. most private shuttle companies charge that amount.they charge by the car not the number of passangers and there should be no extra charge for luggage.
http://www.prague-airport-shuttle.com/ this is the company i use in Prague, highly reliable, run by an American ex-pat and his Czech wife. they will take Euros for the transfers.
There is a cab company at the airport call AAA taxis,if you go to their stand you can pay for a transfer and you get a good discount if you book for a return transfer.
You can use Euros in some places in the city but crowns are the local cuuency,if using Euros expect a terrible exchange rate and your change in crowns.

Public transportation FYI is excellent in Prague, and it's easy to get from the airport to central Prague for much less than, say, 33 Euros. Without much baggage, it wouldn't be hard to carry it on a bus and the subway.
Here are the options (some might work better than others depending on the exact location of your hotel):

As noted, Czech Krona will work best in Prague - get them from the ATM machine at the airport with your ATM card. If you try to use Euros you'll be paying a hefty surcharge for the exchange rate.

Regular airport express bus that goes to main train station (35 min) is 60kc pp. We took it and was on time. There is also some "private" transfer co there; operates smaller bus for 150kc pp. Old town is not that far from train station but it depends where the hotel is. 600kc ballpark for taxi sounds right.
Recently saw "Scam City" show where they had a segment on Prague taxi scams. Altered meters & 40 euro for 5 min ride. If I remember correctly AAA was the reputable one but some other one with name containing Euro*** was not.

yah AAA are the reputable company and have the airport contract, there is the Cedaz shuttle that hkto mentions,
http://www.cedaz.cz/public-shuttle-b...gue-centre.php
I think it only runs till about 7.30 at night but does take you to V Celnici which is fairly central and only a short walk from Namesti Republiky metro.
The AE bus is a cheaper option and run ever 30 minutes ,last bus is at 9.16pm.It stops at Dejvicka Metro,Masarykovo train(also near namesti Republiky) station and Hlavni train station (the main station). There are other public transport options that mean bus and metro/tram journeys and if you let me know the name of your hotel I can try and give you proper direction for that.

link for the Airport Express bus. I last used this for a return trip to the Airport about 9 months ago and it is a good option if you can easily get to Hlavni.

I have been to Prague on various occasions, the cheapest way how to get there is by using the public transport service from the Airport
the other option is to you private taxi (there are quite many of them offering the same: Free walking day trips - which are free anyway for evereyone! (see: www.freetour.com, ww.newpraguetours.com, www.newpraguetours.com and many others). Once I have bumped inte a taxi copmany ( www.bohemia-prague-airport-transfers.com ) offer a bit more extra - a valuable ticket to TV Tower where is a fascinated restaurant and a bit higher even nicer watchtower point!, R.
