My son will be arriving in Rome FCO airport and I was wondering how many Euros he can expect to pay to get into the center of the city going by taxi cab?

Why doesn't he take the Leonardo Express? It's 10.50 euro, I think. Then a taxi to wherever he's going - would probably be cheaper in the long run.
I believe that there is a set rate to/from FCO and I think it is 40 euros. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks for the information. A cab ride is a must since he will be carrying a great deal of luggage. He will be studying in Italy for 6 months.
There is a set rate of 40 euros, however our b& b in the Trastevere sent us a car, that was waiting for us
for 35 euro. What I mean you can have the car waiting for your son ,with a sign, which I believe would be the best. Our driver who waited for us and then took us back was a very nice reliable person. I have his number. It was a new car.
Graziella how can I get the name and number of this driver from you? Does he have email or do we need to call?
Why not just book a car or van with www.RomeShuttleLimousine.com? It's comparably priced, very reliable, and everything can be arranged online at your convenience.
Hi Jam he gave us a card
Autoleggio Gianni Lucarino
+39 340 4123621
of course I only know him through the b&b
Arco del Lauro, he was punctual and a nice driver.
Middle age man. I liked the fact that he made it clear he did not expected a tip. He collected the 35 eu
and that was it. He did help us with the luggage.
What are is your son going, it my vary.
sorry, I meant where is your son going to, the rate might vary?
I would definitely arrange for a car beforehand. The cabs are supposed to only charge 40 Euros but when my dad took a cab, the guy tried to charge him 80 euros (he was taking advantage of an 85 year old man). Unfortunately, I wouldn't trust the driver to charge you fairly.
Hi Terry, if you call the autoleggio I mentioned his phone number, please let me know how did it go. My nephew is going soon and I wish him to take this service too. Actually let us know how did it go whoever you call.
Jam,
I'm seconding cupid1's suggestion of RomeShuttleLimousine. We used them for our May visit with no difficulties at all - 35 euros each way. I think it's fair to say that they have a lot of satisfied customers here.
Jim
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Can anyone tell me if you tip on the 35 E, if so how much? Also how many pieces do they allow, and is their extra charge for 3 pieces?
Forgot to ask, if you need to call the limo service once you land like supershuttle or is the driver waiting for you right after customs with a name card? Thanks
I used Rome Shuttle Limo both ways in January and was VERY pleased with their 35Euro service. The driver meets you after customs with a name card. As far as I know there is no limit on baggage but I would certainly tip if there are many bags. We tipped a few euro just because the driver was very friendly, although we had only 2 medium sized bags and a carry on.
Thanks to all for your advise. My son reported back and said that the driver for the Romeshuttlelimousine was wonderful. He even pointed out sites to him as he drove into Rome. Would highly recommend using the service.
We tip our RomeShuttleLimo drivers,
usually 5 euro because it's a nice round number, but it's certainly not expected.
That's just how we are; it's so nice to have a friendly face and clean car (and non-crazy driving) waiting for us when we arrive exhausted from the flight, and as early as we have to get up to prepare to leave for our obnoxiously early return flights we know our driver has to rise even earlier--yet they arrive ahead of time and are always cheerful.
Whoops. Jam, I'm so glad your son had as fine an experience with this company as the rest of us.
Thanks to all for the info about www.RomeShuttleLimousine.com. Naive question, but I've run into this before, so I have to ask: Do you know if the charge is 35 Euros per person or per trip? We are a family of 4.
Never mind about my last post. Went to the site and have found what I need. Thanks!
Is Rome Shuttle Limosine a shuttle van share service?
That is, you share the ride with strangers and they make several stops?
Or is it more like a private car service where they're only taking you to and from the airport?
Private car service.
scrb,
We experienced both in one visit. When we were collected at the airport we had our own car but when they picked us up to take us back to the airport at the end of our stay we shared a minibus with 2 other travellers.
No problems though - excellent punctual service & well worth the money.
Jim
OK so it is a shared service then, but they will load up a minibus if they can.
That's fine but you can get shared shuttle services for $21 and change on Viator. But that shuttle service will try to carry as many passenger per trip as possible so you may have anywhere from 3 to 5 stops before you reach the destination.
I'm contemplating a trip in November but KLM flies out of FCO at 5:55 AM and the Viator service doesn't appear to run before 6:30.
So for that early a flight, they may have to pick you up at like 4:30 AM or earlier, if they want to make several stops before taking you to the airport.
We just came back from Rome. The cab charged us 50 euros for the ride and 5 more for the bags for the trip from our hotel, which was in the center of the city to the airport. That was very early in the morning. It may be cheaper at other times.
It's suppose to be a flat rate right?
I guess they figure Americans don't know better or have money to burn.
The hotel told us it was going to be 50 euros before the booking. It sounded like a standard rate. The driver asked for 5 more euros for the two pieces of luggage when we got to the airport. I believe it was supposed to be just 50 but didn't want to argue with him.
I think airport to the hotel should be cheaper than that, at least, not more. Our driver had to come at 5am to pick us up. That's and inconvenience.
