The next festival is 2014. Has anyone been? I read that it is a concert , are tickets easy to get? Is it worth going?
We have great singing in Wales but not on this scale.

Anyone?
A concert? It is the heart and soul of Estonian culture. Not only tickets but also accommodation will be hard to find because of the many expats who return to their native country for the festival. We postponed our travel plans in 2009 until 3 months after the festival upon advice of our Estonian friends because finding a place to stay for a group of 12 would have been close to impossible. Book your hotel well in advance if you intend to go.
I don't have any information for you but the Estonian Song Festival is also on my wish list too. I think that last time they had 23,000 people singing and the audience was four times that size. The conductor did an amazing job of holding it altogether - it's on youtube.
The official website is not easy to navigate so it's a bit hard to tell if tickets are easy to come by or not. Good luck, and if you go please write about it.
When I wrote " a concert" it was in contrast with a singing festival in Wales where the audience/ congregation takes part. This is known as a gymanfa ganu. The nearest I have come to hearing this many voices is in the Millenium Stadium when Wales is playing.
I'd still like to hear of ticket availabilty problems.
