Tallinn- recommended currency

We will be spending a week in Tallinn in September and wondered about the currency. We have some each of Kroons, US dollars and Euros. Should we buy all our Kroons in UK or is the exchange rate better in Tallinn? Also which is the best currency to take as a backup for exchange. Dollars or Euros? We wondered if Euros are accepted in restaurants etc. because of the Finns proximity. Hope someone out there can help.

I was in Tallin last July and the shops all wanted Euros. I was also in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Russia and most places took Euros willingly. They even accepted Euros in St Petersburg.

Estonia is now part of the EU, and although it still doesn't belong to the Euro zone, I think it will be easier to change money with Euros there or even pay with them.

The National currency is "Kroons". Pay with them rather than running the risk of getting an unfavourable exchange rate on Euros. Draw them from an ATM. They are abundant. US Dollars are absolutely unnecessary, if not uncalled for.

I agree with the Kroon suggestion. We were just there in June. You can get them at the ferry terminals (we left from Helsinki) or even on the Ferry.

Thankyou to all who have taken the trouble to reply. Very useful comments. We shall indeed use Kroons and take the Euros we have as backup. Nice to know before we travel that it is so easy to exchange money now.
