Taking a cruise need suggestions for short stays

We are taking a wonderful trip in May that my husband won through his company. We will will fly out 3 days early to Athens Greece. From there we will aboard the cruise ship to Mekonos for the day and Santerini (sp?) then on to Florence and Rome and ending in Monte Carlo. Looking for some suggestions, since we will only be in Italy and the Greek islands for the day

Hi Kelly,

Your ship will dock in Livorno, not Florence, and Civitavechia, not Rome.

It's about an hour by train from C to Rome.

From Livorno Centrale to Florence is about 1 1/2 hr by train.

See www.trenitlalia.com/en for schedules and prices.

You can also arrange for private limo pickup, at somewhat higher prices.

Hi Ira-
I am probably asking some question premature. But it is my understanding that this is a small boat, 300 - 400 capacity and that it can dock where other cruise line cant. Do you still think we will dock in Livorno and Civitavechia? Thanks

Hi kelley,

If you look at a map of Italy, you will see that it is very difficult to get to Florence by boat from either coast.

It might have a place to berth somewhere closer to Rome.

Thanks for your help, I am new to this sight but have been reading everyone response to different questions and find it very helpful. I have a little more information about our trip. We are flying out from US on May 14th into Athens Greece, we will have the 15, 16, 17 and part of the day on the 18th to do what we want. We would like to go to Monemvasia, how far and what is the best way to travel there from Athens? I heard it is very difficult to drive in Athens. Also we will be hitting the Acropolis, Parthenon, etc. on the 19th & 20th (company arranged tours) What are other area you would suggest when we are on our own? (We are also going to Mykonos, and Santarini as stops of our cruise. One more question, Do you know if the hotels will store our luggage the three days prior to checking in or is there an other option so we don't have to lug everything around for the three days on our own? Thanks

Hello I hope you all had fun in your trips and managed to relax from the zoo. I wonder if you can help me with my adventure in September 2007. We are traveling in a group of 4. Will we be better of booking a tour in Civitavecchia, and what are the best highlights to see in Rome?

Hello I wonder if I can get suggestions as to what are the best tours for Naples? Does anybody know which roman city is better to see in September, Herculaneum or Pompeii?

TAYNOS: You have tacked your questions on to a three year old thread. It would be better if you started a new thread w/ your own specific questions . . . .
