Where were you planning to go? What were you planning to do? How many days?

My first trip to Switzerland was in November for my birthday. I was in the Geneva/Vevey/Montreux areas along Lac Leman. Yes it was cold... definitely winter-time. I took a regular wool coat, hat, gloves, boots which worked well for me.

I've visited Switzerland twice over Thanksgiving...one time we got a ton of snow in Engelberg (loved it!), the other time it was dry, brown and barren in the Berner Oberland (following a very hot, dry summer). We hiked and went sledding, had a blast.

It's the shoulder season, so expect closures in the alpine villages and do your research before you go so you're not disappointed.

well, november is the turnover month between fall and winter... so its not fully winter yet, but the golden fall is gone allready... you can be lucky, and have still some sunny weather and ok temps.. something like 5 - 10 degrees.. maybe..

but..
most of the mountain villages and resorts will have snow allready... in the valleys and the northern part of switzerland, there will be a lot of fog and grey weather...

so it realy depends on what you want to see.. you should spend a bit of thinking about that and come forward with it... its gonna be easier for us then to give you some more and better info....

Well - it's winter in the mountains - and late fall in the valleys - so it will be cold. Not sure what sort of advice you are looking for. If you mean someplace warmer - head south of the alps.
