Switzerland Christmas week

We will be in Switzerland for 6 nights between Christmas and New Years. We want to see the most beautiful area/areas of Switzerland during this time of year. Could you please give suggestions on either mountain or lake areas that are best in winter. Thanks

ciao johnny

it really depends what you are looking for. at the lakes you could find snow and nice weather or even rain and ugly weather. if you search for snow, then it might be better to go to the mountain area. therefore i would go eather ot Zermatt (in Vallis), car free, snowcircus around you, Matterhorn and a very nice town. or Davos (in Graubünden) with a lake, snow, rich people and beautiful decorated as well. graubünden is nice however, lots of possibilitys for wintersport and normally they do have snow at this time of the year. lakewise is Luzern and Zug very pretty and nice (there are sev. hints for hotels in lucern on the swiss board). important is, that you might be even too late to make reservations in the mountain area for hotels. swiss do have holidays then and normally tons are going to spend there holidays in the mountains. good luck!

christina

Johnny hello: I second Christina's oppinion. Between Christmas and New Year, a lot of people are off and have booked their hotels or appartments a long time ago.
Also, a lot of hotels in skiing resorts only accept guests from Dec. 24 through at least Jan 1. From what I heard on TV, some places are more or less booked already. People tend to stay in the area now, rather than taking the plane.

Ciao Christina. Buena Domenica!
Non che neve ancora!
Good luck!

Having been to Zwitzerland many times over the years, we love the Lauterbrunnen region. Last trip we stayed in Wengen. You migt also consider the small village Grimmelwald
www.gimmelwald-news.ch which is perched above the steep Lauterbrunnen Valley within walking distance to Murren. We like this region because the scenery is extremely dramatic with the Jungfrau and Eiger right in front of you! The steep walled Lauterbrunnen valley is also spectacular. Skiing is excellent, hiking outstanding, villages gorgeous. I recommend Hotel Schoenegg in Wengen. www.hotel-schoenegg.ch for a lovely moderately priced hotel. This is a very busy ski week and it may already be too late to get a room in the mountainous regions of Switzerland.

Johnny---
My favorite for a winter visit is Arosa. It has all the things you want, and like most of the Alps in winter, you will find lots of snow and skiing along with the scenery and even a lake. Try the Hotel Valsana.
