Swiss Guard Uniform & Michelangelo Myth

I have heard this on tv documentarys and read it in guidebooks saying that Michelangelo designed their uniforms. But it is only a myth.

Go to
http://ansa.it/main/notizie/awnplus/...0_1916951.html Also has some interesting info on the Swiss Guards.
Regards, Walter

Thanks, Paradise - Your posts are always so interesting. And I'm VERY happy to know that the Swiss Guards will never recruit women!

'Cause no woman in her right mind would be caught dead in an outfit like that?

Hey SharonG. Haven't heard from you in ages! Got that return trip to Chicago for the hotdog planned yet? I'm going to the GTG Dec. 10th. Cheap (hard to believe) airfare. I'll be up and back for the day.

Just a bit "busy", I think. But the ruff would be good for a crepy neck.

Nice info Walter, thanks! Checking the ANSA site you included gave some good info, too. It looks like folks traveling in Italy in May, might be able to catch some of the Guards 500th anniversary celebration.

"The celebrations will conclude in May with another set of ceremonies ending the anniversary year. A group of 80 former members of the elite corps will commemorate the original march from Switzerland to Rome, traveling 450 miles in 27 days to arrive in St. Peter's square on May 4. The following day will see a musical festival"

I didn't validate this info, as it appears all the happenings conclude before we get there. Phil

Hey Indytravel, just recovering from my trip to Argentina so don't know if I'll make it to the GTG. Still craving my Chicago dog but we all have to have an impossible dream.
