Suggestions for villa rental,5 small kids, one month, near or on water

We are looking to take our 5 kids away for a month in June/July of 2012 (ages 2-9). We have been looking at the Italian lake region, Amalfi coast primarily - but that is because we are more familiar with Italy. I would love to find a smaller village that has the essentials, boat access, fishing and somewhere that we could take a few days here and there to explore.

Any suggestions on other places to look at?

I would also take any leads on which villa rental companies people have had success with.

Thanks

I agree about slowtrav.com but do not miss the great site at summerinitaly.com for rentals at both the lakes and AC---very good to deal with.

we loved lake garda which would fit your bill, and also alcudia, on the north coast of mallorca.

both would fit your bill of things to do and being very child friendly.

I'm confused - are you looking at the Italian lakes OR the Amalfi coast - they are hundreds of miles apart. And are you sure you want a waterfront property with such small kids? That would take several adults full time just to watch them near the water. Or do you just mean a location neat water? Be aware that the beaches at the AC are not very pleasant - pebbles, not sand - in the middle of towns, narrow and near harbors - not really very beachy at all (as compared to FL or the Carib with broad pure white sand beaches)
