I am trying to develop an itinerary for a trip to Spain in late September or early October. I have never travelled to Spain and at this point all I know is that I am flying into Barcelona. I will be in the country approximately 10 days (includes travel time). Given the time frame, can you suggest an itinerary that will cover at least some of the not to be missed areas/attractions/cities.

We went to Spain at the same time last year and spent our entire 9 days in Andalucia. We visited Seville, Granada and the pueblos blancos. I loved Andalucia and would highly recommend adding Seville and Granada to your itinerary.

Arriving in Barcelona and leaving from? My husband and I went to Spain a couple years ago, flew into Barcelona, spent a couple days there, then flew to Madrid for 3 days and drove to the Costa del Sol. It was a great trip. There are so many things you can do. In Barcelona, definitely check out La Sagrada Familia church. It is truly one of the most amazing works in progress you'll ever see. Also check out the Barri Gothic, great for strolling around and admiring Spanish life. In Madrid, go to el Prado museum, Parque Retiro and Plaza Mayor for sure. Spend some time at a tapas bar and people watch. Its a great way to pass time.

I would count on app. 3 days in Barcelona.

Check Iberia for an inexpensive flight to Seville. Derpending upon the day of the week and time of day you could get very inexpensive flights.

My priority would be 3 days in Seville. A day trip to Cordoba and/or Granada.

I would put Granada in if I could get a good flight back to Barcelona (assuming you return from Barcelona). Train to Granada from Seville.

While the Alhambra is a great site, the Alcazar in Seville is at least as impressive.

To summarize, I would plan based on getting good, inexpensive flights from/to Barcelona.

Our favorites were Seville and Barcelona.

If you consider some of the greatest of European museums as "must sees" then that, alone, would be reason enough to include Madrid IMO.

I am sure you will get tons of recommendations and I am not trrying to be rude but I do think you would get <b> more useful ones </b> if you did us the courtesy of at least mentioning some of <b>your</b> interests rather
than relying on ours alone.

Spain is a wonderful country and has a lot to offer.

Late September is an excellent time to visit Spain, especially Andalucia where the weather is still quite warm and the beaches are not as crowded. After spending four or five days in Barcelona and Madrid, you can drive down to Granada to visit the Alhambra (do make an advance reservation). On the way to Malaga, stop by Nerja to see one of the most beautiful beaches in all Europe (the Burriana beach), the balcony of Europe, and the famous Cueva de Nerja. You can drive up the road to a pretty hillside village called Frigiliana for lunch at a local restaurant. The food there is cheap and authentic. In Malaga, go visit the Picasso Museum and his birthplace. There are many nice restaurants, bars, and reasonably priced hotels right in the center of the city as well. Sevilla is only a 90 min drive from Malaga and is full of things to do and places to see. My wife and I, both Starbucks addicts, drive that distance only for a couple of frapuccinos at the only Starbucks in Andalucia (and to shop at IKEA too actually). Good luck

We spent a couple of glorious weeks in Spain last Sept/October. We flew into Barcelona, stayed in an apt. there for
3 nights; flew to SEville and stayed for four nights (you could cut that to 2 or 3), drove to Granada and one night in Jaen parador (would skip that parador), then spent a week in Marbella area and did day trips to lots of the white villages (you could cut that back). We then flew home from Malaga. Worked perfectly!
