suggestions for Swiss cattle drives

My sis and I will be spending 3 weeks traveling by train in France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. She loves cows and has heard of the drives bringing the cattle down from the high country for the winter. They put flowers on the cows and she really would like to see one. We will be there from Sept 7-28. We are completely flexible.

The term for the event is "Almbetrieb" in German. There are dozens and dozens of such events occurring across Germany and Austria, and presumably Switzerland, throughout September. If you search the term on the Internet you should find a number of options.

We will be attending our second one in Tirol in late September and are really looking forward to the weekend. The cows are so beautiful...

Thanks so much for the suggestions. It sounds like it is pretty prevalent in September so we should be able to find one.

I absolutely LOVED Lenk im
Simmental, fall 2013. Any of the villages along Simmental would provide a nice event.
Last year I went to Schuepfheim for the Alpabfahrt (correct spelling). Much more touristy (though Europeans), with a long parade of yodelling groups, bands, dancing groups and goats, in addition to the decorated cows. Far fewer crafts, and a bigger focus on beer and party tent (if that's your thing). You can click on my past TRs if desired.

Desalpes must be the French word for the same thing?

I've been looking online for events that fit our time frame and have found some good options. I sent some images to my cow-loving sis and she is so excited. Sounds like a fun thing to experience and we will definitely do it. Thanks everyone for the links.

It is a fun day! And, if you stand at the beginning of the route, do move to another section towards the end of the route when they finish going by you. Get to experience it twice!

Lots of music, bands, food and drink. Enjoy!!!

And, those cows, calfs, goats, et al are soooooo cute!
