Suggestions for stop on drive between Venice and Perugia

Any suggestions for a nice/interesting town in which to spend one night on our drive from Venice to Canalicchio (30k south of Perugia)? We are traveling with our 3 sons (13, 11 & 7) and will have just spent a few days in Venice.

Verona is a nice city to visit. It's the home of Romeo and Juliette and has a beautiful ancient arena.

Your sons might like to go to Maranello (The Motor Valley). This is the home town of Ferrari, Ducati, Lamborghini and Maserati. You can visit the Ferrari Museum and the adults can test drive these "toys" out in the real word.

I assume you are planning to go to Assisi. If not you really should. It's sounds silly but it is a very spiritual place and I think if your sons got a day of sports cars they can do a day with cathedrals.
