Suggestions for long weekend on the Cote d'Azure
I would be grateful for any suggestions for somewhere to stay close to Nice in May or June - we will be renting a car and don't want to have to go too far. We are looking for somewhere with character and good food - price is not really an issue. We don't really want to stay in the city of Nice but would rather be in striking distance if we want to go in for a couple of hours. We are really just looking for somewhere nice to go and relax. Thanks in advance for the issue.

Within a half hour's drive are:

-Vence--see the Matisse Chapel. Confirm that is open on the day you plan to go.
-in nearby St. Paul de Vence is the Meaght Foundation. Dedicated to modern art it is a beautiful place to visit regardless of your taste in the arts. Note drive right up to the Foundation--there is parking on the crest where the Foundation sits.

Good luck!

Nice is toooooo gross. It is dirty - not relaxing. Go to one of the smaller towns if you want to get away and relax, but all of the ones right on the coast are touristy and not so appealing if you ask me. St. Paul de Vence is swell, but after a day boring.

We stayed in Le Mas d'Artigny near St Paul de Vence.

A lovely hotel with wonderful service from staff and a wonderful breakfast.

We didnt eat in the hotel restaurant, instead we drove into St Paul de Vence itself for dinner.

Note: It isn't within walking distance of anywhere, it's a bit of a luxury estate.

http://www.mas-artigny.com
