Suggestions for Itinerary beginning in Vienna??
My DH and I will be attending business meetings in Vienna end of June. We are adding 10 more days after the meeting finishes , where to from there? Suggestions, itineraries, greatly appreciated for Vienna and ??.
We like museums, fresh air, walking neighborhoods, beer. We've seen Salzburg, Rhine, Bavarian Alps.

I was thinking about heading south. if you look at the map, you will see that you could travel down to Graz, and then down to Trieste. fly home from there or Venice.
or go south and then west to Bolzano.
both would make very nice week+ trips.

Are you taking the train or flying? Will you need to depart Vienna? If the train, Budapest or Ljubljana are not too far away (around 3/6hrs respectively). Prague and Berlin are also slightly further afield, but great options, so depends how long you want to spend travelling

We don't mind traveling, especially if it's scenic. I've read that Prague is beautiful, so am leaning in that direction, but is there enough to fill 10 days between Vienna and Prague?
I've thought about this itinerary:
Day 1-5 Vienna (business- organized sightsee 1 day)
Day 6-7 Vienna (on our own)
Day 8 Melk- Danube Valley
Day 9 Prague - travel
Day 10-14 Prague
Day 15 Depart
We could extend up to 4 days and add other sights.
Help please!

Last month we were in Trento (south of Bolzano), it is a lovely city and from there you could go for a day trip to Madonna di Campiglio. Alternatively if you prefer to stay east in Veneto you can visit Cortina d'Ampezzo or maybe stay in Rimini coast and visit Bologna, there is an airport in Bologna.

Hi wall67!
here some suggestions for a trip through Austria:
after your stay in Vienna (I would at least count 3 days for sightseeing in Vienna) you could visit the region Wachau. End of june there is a a big celebration going on called "Sonnwendfeier" (23th of June). With a big firework and culinary delicacies the region is celebrating the beginning of summer. If you are booking on time you can also experience this spectacle aboard a ship at the Danube river (for bookings you would have to contact the local tourism board of the Region Wachau). The Region Wachau is due to its cultural richness and unique landscape at the worldheritage list of the Unesco. You'll find a lot of culture as well as nice walking paths and good wine there.
Also you could visit the region Neusiedler See which is well known for its winegrowers. End of June it will already be possible to take a swim in Europes biggest steppe lake (also at the worldheritage list of the Unesco). I can also recommend the bicycle route around the lake.
You could also visit lake Hallstatt and the village Hallstatt (also at the worlheritage list of the Unesco and well known for its famous salt mine and beautiful landscape).
Very impressive is the Großglockner panoramic road which leads you through a part of Nationalpark Hohe Tauern and up on 2.504m. It gives visitors the possiblity of a great view on Austria's highest mountain the Großglockner (3.798m).
If your planing to visit Graz, which is realy a very nice city. You could also stop at The Federal Stud Piber in Köflach, which lies 45 km west of Graz and looks back at 400 years of tradition. It is the home of the world-famous white Lipizzaner stallions which perform at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.
There's still a lot more to discover in Austria!
If you want to have some more tips and links to webpages where you can find more information about the mentioned regions just write us (Austrian National Tourist Office) an e-mail [email protected]
Greetings from Vienna
