Our family of four (2 adults, 2 kids ages 11 and 13) will be traveling to Istanbul this coming summer. I'm having problems finding a hotel or apartment that will accommodate all of us plus meet my spouse's expectations.
Ideally, we'd like to be near the old town tourist attractions. My husband prefers an apartment style place that gives us plenty of space. Or, a large hotel room would be fine, too.
Must be clean and relatively modern in terms of decor. Prefer to keep it under US $250 a night.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance...

In October we stayed at Hotel Kumru in Istanbul.
http://kumruhotel.com/index.html
It has a king size bed and then an L-shaped couch -- which I think is just two singles pushed together. But they were super comfortable beds! The bathroom had a nice shower and a full sized bath. It also had large sliding glass door leading out to a little patio with a table and chairs.
Breakfast was included (and delicious) served on their rooftop terrace.
It has a really clean, modern feel. No cheesey faux ottoman style!
The owner is an American from San Fransisco married to a Turkish man. They were both incredibly helpful with excellent recommendations for restaurants and siteseeing.
If you have any other questions about this hotel, just ask!
I absolutely love Istanbul. I highly recommend you do stay in Sultanahmet - it is so close to all the major attractions and as you will be in Istanbul in the summer, you may want to go back to the hotel to freshen up during the day.
I like the Hotel Empress Zoe but it is very popular so the sooner you book the better. This past autumn, I was unable to get into the Zoe so had to stay elsewhere. Now the Zoe has different size rooms. The ones I would recommend are the Garden Suites of which I believe there are two. There is a separate bedroom with a sitting room area. The sitting room has two twin beds. There is also a sort of kitchen (basin, small fridge) which would allow you to have food in your room. As all hotels in Istanbul, the Zoe offers breakfast with the room rate. The website is www.empresszoe.com and the suites are in your price range.
Please note I do not work for the Zoe; I just am a fan of Istanbul (been there three times) and the Zoe is my favorite hotel there.
Have you tried airbnb.com? I've had very good luck with the website's offerings.
I checked out all the websites and REALLY loved the kumruhotel. Sadly, it's booked for the dates we need... Still looking for other suggestions, please...
Hi
The old town is Sultanahmet so look for accommodation there if that's what you want. Try http://www.istanbulsuitehome.com or scan http://www.istanbulsweethome.com. Or not too far from Sultanahmet try - http://www.4floorsistanbul.com.
