Suggestions for Great Britain, please

Hi, everyone!
I am wondering if any of you might be able to suggest a town to stay at in England for a few days after our cruise of the British Isles in June. We will be arriving in Southampton and eventually leaving from Gatwick, so I don't want to get too far off-base.

We would like to see Stonehenge, Bath, Stratford-on-Avon ourselves (not with the cruise, in other words). I was looking at Salisbury, Bristol, and maybe even SoA, but I'm not familiar with the area at all. I would prefer not to have to get a car, but that is a possibility. As a note..... We are spending a few days in London pre-trip, so that's out of the question.

As always, I do appreciate any help you can give.

Many thanks,
Chris

I'd base in Salisbury or Bath or someplace in the general area like Chippenham, Corsham or Lacock.

Salisbury - most convenient for Stonehenge and with a beautiful cathedral and close - and then Bath - lots to see and lots of day trips. No need for a car.

For train info see seat61.com and for schedules see nationalrail.co.uk.

We spent a few nights in Bath and really enjoyed it. Took a train from Paddington Station. Don't need a car. Beautiful city to explore including Roman Baths etc.
Took a day tour thru the Cotswalds with Mad Max Tours. They also offer a tour of Stonehenge. Enjoy whatever you decide to do.

I say Salisbury. There are lots of transport options to places you'd like to see.

It is hard to go wrong with either Salisbury or Bath. I found Bath the more interesting and it remains a favorite, but Salisbury has its points as well and is a convenient point for a Stonehenge trip.

Salisbury, with one of the great European cathedrals to the south, the town is very normal but has good communication links

To clarify my post -- I meant Bath or Salisbury if you don't have a car, or Chippenham, Corsham or Lacock if you do.
