Suggestions for coast towns 1-2 hours out of Amsterdam
I have 2 nights to fill for my trip in April to Amsterdam/Germany.
My itinerary is:
3 nights in Amsterdam
2-3 nights in Essen
1-2 nights-Where???
1 night at airport for early flight home
The last part of my trip I will be leaving Essen and will end in Amsterdam to leave for home. Since the first part of my vaca will be in Amsterdam, I would like to explore the coast outstide of Amsterdam
I am looking for suggestions of villages/towns of where to stay along the coast about 1-2 hours from Amsterdam.
Thanks for your help.

Enkhuizen which has an attractive harbor and a skansen.

Until we know a means of transport there is little point making suggestions. Enkhuizen in on the Ijsselmeer, not the coast.
From Essen somewhere in Zeeland would make most sense.
If a car is available then heading up to the Wadden coast of Friesland/Groningen would be doable.
If relying on public transport it is a different story all together.

Ok, Your post crossed mine.
As I said you could consider Zeeland, as it is easy to get to from Essen, maybe Middelburg or Vlissinen or Domburg if you want somewhere smaller.
Or head up to the northern coast and base yourself somewhere like Harlingen, or even in Groningen city.

Thanks for the replies. I will look into all the suggestions I should have added this in my original post.
Any suggestions for viewing and photographing the tulip fields. I am an amatuer photographer and want to take advantage of my time. I am looking at my options: (1 day)
rent bikes and shoot, (Which town is best?)
hire a photoguide to take me to the best places.
Thanks again

Depending on when in April you are here the main tourist viewing tulip fields are around Lisse, so that would be a good base for the coast too. Alternatively the majority of bulbs are now grown in the Noordoostpolder, near Emmeloord. A few interesting places to visit in that area, though Emmeloord isn't one of them. Or head up north of Amsterdam towards Alkmaar, and stay somewhere like Egmond. Bulb fields up there too.
