Suggestions for a hotel in Rome?

Suggestions for a hotel in Rome?
Can anyone suggest a hotel in Rome, range $130-$200 per night, close to restaurants and nightlife? We are going toward the end of May and I would like to book something soon.

My daughter and I had a very nice corner room at the Hotel Aberdeen in January for 80 Euros. It was a nice sized room that was very clean with minibar,safe,cable,etc. The breakfast was decent and the place is about two blocks from the Termini station(and no it was very safe and across the street from the Ministry of Defense and down from the Opera?)We thought that is was VERY convenient for bus and train service to the Vatican,Trevi, Ostica Antica and Pompeii,etc.)I cannot say enough about the hotel staff and all their help and suggestions.(The hotel is actually in Rick Steves,trip advisor and Frommers, I think?). The hotel had free internet in the main lobby and the staff is unbeatable for help in going to various places etc.We loved the hotel as it was close to a metro stop,walk to Termini if you needed to(the place is so different than what people had said it was-its like a mini shopping/train mall) and our favorite restaurant in Rome-Target off Via Nationazale).Save your money for a great meal and traveling-you cannot go wrong with this place.It has an award from the Australian Travel Bureau in the lobby and while we were there we met numerous people at breakfast from various countries-great fun as we would all "network" to get our trips for the next day.Enjoy!

platzer, clearly January rates can be used as proportional indicators of the hotel price range. The fact that dutyfree expanded on the hotel qualities should help Lilym a lot more than your offbase remark. Now, go take that chill pill.
Lilym, I recommend the Hotel Forte on Via Margutta. The hotel is located on a pedestrian street, walking distance to the Spanish Steps and many restaurants. Via Margutta is popular in Rome for the antique and art stores. It was in the $100/double range Nov price. If I may, next time in Rome I would go for the Hotel Nazionale, outstanding location.

My daughter and her husband had a delightful room for about 100 Euros at The Relais Banchi Vecchi near the Campo Fiore. The room had a lovely bath and was a nice size. We paid more and got less of everything, except noise, near the Piazza Navonna.

We are currently staying at Hotel Smeraldo in the Campo di Fiori area and it couldn't be a better location. We are a quick walk from Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trastevere, Ancient Rome, even the Vatican doesn't seem that far away. We leave on Monday, boo hoo! We are paying €120 per night with Rick Steves book. Have a great trip!

I can recommend both the Hotel San Carlo, and Casa Howard (which has 2 locations in Rome, but this is specifically their location on via Capo le Case). Their both near the Spanish Steps, but also near a Metro stop, and it's a short walk to the Piazza Navona/Trevi Fountain area.

I stayed at the Mediteranneo on Via Cavour. It was reasonable, the staff made me feel like family and the location was great ...near the Termini . The hotel has a roof garden that overlooks St Peters and many other sites,a great plus. Her sister hotel the Nord is less expensive because she doesn't have an in hotel restaurant ( although she does have a lovely breakfast room ... included) and a roof garden overlooking the ancient Roman baths. Either would be a good choice.
