Studying in France?

I currently finished high school and I have in plan to study abroad in France. Lots of my friends recommended me to go in France because of its landscape and beautiful places but also for the good education they support. Can anyone of you share your experiences in France and tell me which are the best places there. Also some guides and tips for studying in France.

Hoping for good answers.

What are you looking to study (e.g. college degree)?
Are you looking to study in French or English? If you do not speak French then your options are very limited.

I'd also ask what kind of place you want to live in, but if you don't speak French then chances are you'll have to live in Paris, which may not be the kind of lifestyle you're looking for (I don't know - you haven't told us).

This is a travel forum, not an eductional forum. You are not likely to find many people here with experience of studying in France as a foreigner.

I suggest you look for education forums. When you do post on one you need to say what you want to study, what your nationality is and how you see yourself getting a student visa for France. Just because you want to do something does not mean you can do so.

well, I think enough people on Fodors probably have studied abroad, I don't know why one would assume they haven't. As well as some people who live there.

Okay, I think someone who wants to study in a foreign country should have a reason and do extensive research first, not just wanting to go to some place that is pretty and has good education. Education is expensive and should be approached with knowledge and research. Different schools and universities have different requirements, costs, and of course, specialties or curricula. There are some English-language business or computer schools in France, but you can't go to a French university and take regular classes without passing French language exams that show you are competent at a certain level.

If you want to go somewhere to study French, that is a different story, but those programs are not fulltime for years like a university degree. Some are in public universities (usually in summer, of course, when other classes are not in session) and many are private. But that doesn't speak to the idea of France having a good educational system.

So no one could answer this question without understanding the goals and language capabilities.

That would apply to many, many countries. You could try Finland, for example. But apart from what your friends have told you (and what they've told you is quite superficial), you haven't said what you want to study and why France would be a good fit for your educational goals. Nor do you seem to have done any research beyond listening to friends who tell you France is pretty. A great landscape doesn't make for a great education. I think you need to do some homework and come back with some specific questions.

hi there,

First of all thank you for your helpful answers, and sorry for late response to this thread but I wasn't at home ... Anyway I heard that ever year thousands of students have the opportunity to study in France which makes a place with most prestigious universities on Europe. I am considering to continue studies in Computer Science as my main profession, I think I know B2 level French language but still thinking to study in English. The only thing that changed my mind about it is that you have not only interesting topics but also numerous free time activities and many travel opportunities. As I read you have chance to work while you are studying and that's a positive thing for me. Found also some interesting materials here http://www.studying-in-france.org/ (detailed cost of living, why to choose France over other countries, requirements, accommodation, working while studying and much more )

Anyway I have to choose to go or not in France, so many answers will help me a lot.

And sorry that i've posted here this topic, I know this is forum for travel, but I thought that there is any member here with experience or currently study in France.
