Student Discounts on tickets in Italy

I have noticed that many places offer student discounts. While some specifiy that you mst be and EU citizen, other say you need the International Student Id Card, then some just simply say student ID.

Does anyone have any experience with this? My boyfriend and I are US citizens but we posses university picture IDs. Would this be suffucient anywhere?

We found it was hit or miss what ID was required. The international card is the best, plus your university picture ID. Go to STATravel.com for best info. It is a good site for student travelers..
