Stresa, Orta San Giulio, or Vogogna as homebase?

Jump to last reply

I am in the midst of planning a trip to Northern Italy for the end of March. My mom and I will be traveling together. We plan to fly into Milan, spend the night, and then take the train to Varenna, where we will stay for 3-4 nights.

From there we plan to head to Bellinzona and then drive down the western coast of Lake Maggiorre. Where would you suggest we make our homebase for 2-3 nights before we leave from Malpensa? I was looking at Stresa, Orta San Giulio, or Vogogna.

Also any recommendations for car rentals in Cadenabbia (or closeby)? We'd like to rent a car as we leave Lake Como and head to Bellinzona, etc.

Thanks!
