My daughter and I plan to have 20-day tour in England. We'd like to visit Stratford-upon-avon. If we take the city sightseeing bus, is one day enough to visit Shakespeare's birthplace, Nash's House, Hall's Croft and Ann Hathaway's Cottage? Is there a way to buy the admission ticket online? The Lonely Planet says there is a long line queuing for tickets especially in summer.

Yes you can do them all in a day. The bus's web page says you can pay the driver for entrance tickets, but the Shakespeare Trust lets you buy online.

You can see most of the sights in SUA in a few hours. I've always found it a very disappointing place, full of Shakespeare's Tea Rooms etc.

If you like "old England" architecture then it's a great place to visit and yes you can do in one day. When are you planning on visiting? Will you be combining with anything else in the area? ( eg Warwick Castle?)

I spent all my childhood holidays in Stratford, with cousins, and I spent the first summer of my University years working in a hotel, there. I love/d it. There is kitschy stuff, but it's a real town with real people leading real lives.Stay out of the tea rooms.

Frankly, I couldn't do the Birthplace, Hall's Croft and Anne Hathaway's cottage all in one day (there are only so many bed pans you can look at), but I can go any time, and it's your hols, not mine...

The blunt truth about Stratford is that it's a real town, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust stuff is of minimal interest, a couple of older buildings outside the Trust's control (especially Holy Trinity church) are fantastic, and the town houses one of the world's most outstanding theatre companies - whose productions right now are probably better, and are certainly better staged, than they've ever been.

Unless you and your children have serious difficulties understanding English (and your posts don't indicate that) you'd be absolutely mad to trudge round Anne Hathaway's Cottage, but not see a play at one of the RSC's two stages. If you can still get tickets for your day (http://www.rsc.org.uk/) grab them now. If your performance finishes after the last bus back to MiM, lash out on a taxi.
