We'll be in Strasbourg for three days before Christmas and looking to stay in town close to the sites we'll want to see - the Cathedral, Petit France, several of the museums and the Christmas Markets.
I'm now looking at the Hotel Rohan and Hotel Hannong.
I know that the Hotel Rohan is very near the Cathedral but because the triple rooms are booked we'll have to book two rooms there bringing the cost of our stay up. From the the web site the Rohan looks very charming but I can't get a good feel for the Hannong.
Any thoughts? Any other hotels you think I should look at?
Thanks.....
Strasbourg - Hotel Hannong or Hotel Rohan

I don't know if I can help much, but I stayed at the Hotel de l'Europe in Strasbourg and loved it, if you want to look at that one. It's in the Petite France area, and pretty nice. It's a very convenient location, being about halfway between the train station and the cathedral.
However, when I was looking, I considered the Hannong, and then viewed at least the outside of it when I was there -- it's a very good location and is nice-looking from the outside, if that's any help. I really wouldn't want to stay right near the Cathedral, to be honest, it's kind of a zoo around there (IMO). Also, I was planning some day trips by train when I was there for a while, and wanted some closer to the train station to easily walk to it, and the Hotel de l'Europe and Hannong fit that bill better.
Oh thank you - that helps alot... That you have seen the location and the front of the hotel...
Now, I hope to find someone who has stayed there and has seen the inside and experienced the hotel.
well, it's only a couple days and at Christmas, I think they could get full, so I wouldn't wait too long. It looks nice from the website,so how bad could it be -- I know the location is great. They show a couple triples on their website, it appears, and they look nice.
This is the URL of the one I stayed in, it looks like they are about the same rate as the Hannong:

It isn't as clear on there how to look at the rooms, you have to click on those photos in the blocks. Now I really liked the hotel and it is a very good location, also (the Hannong is slightly more central to everything, the Europe is right at the Petite France edge) -- but I have read a couple posts from folks who didn't like their room as well as I did, maybe it wasn't renovated or something. It was a fairly large hotel (larger than you'd think from the outside, as they combined a couple buildings) and I guess maybe had some older and newer rooms, not sure. I had a corner room overlooking the front street and it was very nice and huge, so I had no complaints. It was the deluxe category, I think, though, as that hotel used to be real cheap when I stayed there about five years ago. Their rates now are higher than I would have expected, as they used to be cheaper than a similar Paris hotel. Of course, it may be that I was there in an off period (which is true, I think it was July, a non-business period), as the rates do have a wide range.
