Is there a normal or traditional time that the luggage storage locations close. Some have said they close at 6 but I don't know if that is everyone or do they stay open later. I am trying to make train reservations and there are a few stations where we will be storing our luggage. I cannot find the schedule on Trenitalia's website. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance ...

Different stations, different times. Also keep in mind that luggage storage is available at only the larger stations. Try this website, which shows the services available at the larger stations.

Be aware that opening hours are often movable in Italy, often with little notice. Before leaving luggage anywhere be sure they will be there when you return - and not out to lunch or closed for the day.

Thanks again ... From other topics & forums, most travelers seem to be very comfortable using these facilities and have not had any bad experiences in terms of securing luggage for long periods. Is that the case for all of the train stations, even the smaller ones?

No, only the major train stations have luggage storage. Very few small stations have it unless there is a major attraction nearby such as Pisa. The rates are the same at all of them, but the hours can vary a bit.

The info about which stations have what types of service is only in Italian on Trenitalia. Click an area and then servizi in stazione. Luggage is the last column.

Here's Tuscany's page. You will see in all of Tuscany only the main station in Florence (there are multiple stations) and the main station in Pisa have luggage storage. None of the other stations throughout Tuscany offer it.

Sometimes a bus hub (such as the one in Siena at Piazza Gramsci - it's underground) will have luggage storage, but the hours are much more restrictive.

Do most train stations have lockers available, including those who have a manned luggage storage service?

There aren't any lockers in Italian stations, only manned luggage storage (requires ID, etc.)at the larger stations. Many other countries still have lockers.

Give yourself plenty of time to retrieve your luggage. It took almost an hour to get my bags back from storage in Termini (Rome's main train station) due to a long line.
Have your id and receipt tag handy.
I barely made my train!

You might tell us what you're planning to see in your various stops as some sightseeing venues have luggage storage. I.e., Pompeii, the Leaning Tower, some museums.

We will be storing our luggage at Verona (day trip on the way to Venezia), La Spezia terminal (while visiting Cinque Terre), and Roma Termini while visiting the Vatican. During those times, we will be storing all of our "luggage" plus some other valuables, e.g. laptops. We have a bag that we can lock with a travel lock but nothing more secure than that. Would appreciate advice and experience with the luggage facilities. Thanks in advance ...
