Storage Madrid Airport

My friend and I will be arriving in Madrid in a couple of weeks. Our first night will be spent at an airport-area hotel, to give us a chance to get over jet-lag and so forth. The next day, we will take an Iberia Express plane to Santiago de Compostela. After 4 days in Santiago, we would return to Madrid and go from Barajas to the central hotel where we will spend a week. (And after that, we will be headed to London. But that's another topic.)

Because we won't need all our luggage during the four days in Santiago, we are thinking of leaving one bag at the airport.

My questions are: (A) is the airport storage at Barajas safe and (B) is there a storage area near the Iberia Express gates?

The main reason we would do this is convenience. It is actually a little cheaper (4.50 Euros difference) to check the bag and take it with us than to leave it in storage. So if it would prove complicated to access the storage areas (because they are on a different part of the airport, for example) it wouldn't be worth doing.

Thanks.
