stopover/nice route between Frankfurt and French alps (morzine)

Jump to last reply

Hello our family of four will be arriving in Frankfurt late August- picking up rental car and driving to Morzine. We will be arriving at 9am, tired but hoping to adjust quickly. It is about a 7 hour drive but I think we will need a stopover to regroup. We don't need to be in Morzine until late afternoon the following day so hoping we can see some of the German countryside enroute and enjoy a nice stay somewhere not too expensive (up to about 130 Euros). Can you suggest a good stopping place - nice interesting town where we can stretch our legs, walk our dog, and enjoy some good German food and sights. Would Freiburg be a good choice? Or somewhere closer to Frankfurt?
Any suggestions for a good scenic driving route?
We will be visiting more of Germany later and I will post questions about that separately.
Thanks so much!
