Stockholm Where to stay

Where is best area to stay in Stockholm? By train station? Or by gamla stan? Or neither? WE want a nice area near everything.

Also where is the best nightlife located in Stockholm?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks lanejohann! How many days did you stay? How many days would you suggest for Stockholm? It is one of 4 cities we will be visiting on our trip.

Stockholm isn't big. At all.
I'd suggest a three-night stay – say Thursday to Saturday.

• If you want to stay smack in the middle of most things, I'd recommend either the Nobis Hotel or the Story Hotel. Both are located an iPhone's throw from where it's happening at night.
• If you want a nice view consider the Grand Hôtel or Lydmar (both have views of the harbor and the Royal Castle).
• Of these, you'll be able to stay for less at Story Hotel. The other ones will make your plastic scream a little louder.
• Former ABBA keyboardist Benny Andersson owns a great hotel in the Södermalm area. This means a 10-minute ride by cab to get to the action.
• All the hotels mentioned are located in nice places. In central Stockholm there are hardly any rowdy areas.
• The nightlife revolves around Stureplan, where you'll find the establishments that would qualify as nightclubs. In the Södermalm area, there are mostly bars. The culinary scene is excellent.

Wanna know more? Just ask!

All the best,

(I have stayed in all the hotels mentioned. Yes, in my home town. Yes, I can vouch for them. I'm not that much of a clubber anymore. Friends call me a foodie, though.)

IMHO Stockholm has a ton of things to see - I would suggest at least 4 days (5 nights). Not sure where else you are going - but Oslo (2 days 3 nights) is much smaller and much less to see/do,
