PS: I know this forum is more for holidays tips but even so I thought it could be helpfull asking here

Thank you!

both are nice but IME Denmark significantly cheaper than Sweden - especially if you like to drink booze - even in supermarket in Sweden really really high prices - Copenhagen is also more easy to travel from to places in Germany, Amsterdam, etc.

I love Copenhagen; I like Stockholm - both are realms where English is spoken widely.

Another vote for Copenhagen - I thought the city as a whole was nicer and more coherent, Stockholm seemed to be a bit divided into the touristy "old town" and the rest, whereas every region of Copenhagen had its own great character and you felt there were locals in each part of it. I think there's more to do and see in Copenhagen. Nightlife was better in Copenhagen, and ability to travel around Europe better (although there are I understand lots of low cost flights from Sweden to the summer hotspots of Greece, Spain etc).

I would not say Denmark is "significantly" cheaper than Sweden. Slightly cheaper on some things, yes. And you cannot buy alcohol in supermarkets in Sweden, although some are now starting to sell cans of beer. There is more choice in Danish supermarkets than the Swedish ones.
I do agree though that Copenhagen has very nice areas, especially north which are very expensive (Charlottenlund for instance).
I'd choose based on the university and which offers the best for your studies. You might find the uni's nowhere near the city centres anyway.

Um, it I were going for a PhD my first interest would be the specific university and programs they offer - not which of two very expensive cities would be better to live in.
