Staying ON Campo dei Fiori - is this a mistake?

Originally I was trying to stay away from Campo dei Fiori for an apartment. But we are looking at one ON the square. I know it will be busy and most likely noisy. We will have our two daughters age 21 and 19. I think they will enjoy the activity and we will too, also the market, having everything at our fingertips, and being in the midst of all the goings on. It's on the 4th and top floor with bedrooms at the back. I'll take earplugs and Tylenol PM if I have to.

This is our first time in Rome. Am I making a mistake?

The apt is listed on VRBO and is owned by Fiori and her assistant is Nur. Has anyone had any experience with her or him? The reviews on the apt are almost too good to be true.

http://www.vrbo.com/215521

Any advice will be appreciated!!!!

If the bedrooms are in the back of the apartment, you should not have a problem with noise.

you might check on TripAdvisor.com for reviews of the apartment.

I think it could be fun if you approach it with the right attitude. How interesting to watch all the craziness from your windows. My inner Gladys Kravitz would love it.

The location is great but good luck because is going to be super noisy. Is the most popular spot for the young crowd to spend their evenings.
Your daughters will love to stay there..

Here are some reviews from some posters and also ricksteves...

PS.I must say that the apartment is super..I like the little terrace also..Just bring good earplugs..

Rome is my native city but I live in the US now..

I think it is a zoo on Campo de'Fiori, and it is not just the all night drinking scene but the morning market that is very noisy. If I was a young woman, I would not want to stay there, but not everybody is the same.

I would hate the 5 flights of stairs and the skylights right over the beds. The light, rather than the noise, would wake me up.

Thank you for your replies. I love the Gladys Kravitz remark, Lesly.

Thank you for the link to Rick Steve's review of the Campo and the apartment. It helps!

And I appreciate the honest comments about the noise, the skylight, the stairs and all. We will take all of these things into consideration. It will be the start of our trip for 4 or 5 nights. Then we will be in a quiet place for a few nights in Italy before moving to the Loire Valley and then Paris.

I read where the mayor of Rome was trying to crack down on the all night drinking in the area. One question I didn't ask is about safety? I am assuming it is safe. Our daughters will be watched carefully and I don't expect them to be out all night!!!!

We stayed in an apartment owned by Fiora and serviced by her assistant Nur. For instance we had difficulty connecting to wifi and she stopped by that afternoon to help.. Our apartment was on Governo de Vecchio. Nur was attentive, professional and prompt. The apartment was clean and well equipped. You can click on my name to see my recent trip report. We were in the 3rd floor and didn't have problems with noise, even though this is a busy area.

Leely2 - love that "inner Gladys kravitz" line. That's one of my neighbors to a T. I'm gonna borrow that line for sure. And we must me in the same age bracket if I know who she is.

Great sidebar - I had no idea that "Gladys Kravitz" is an American lexicon.

I am picturing myself peering out from behind the curtain onto the Campo dei Fiori.....ha ha.

I am always amazed at how some of these threads end up in the strangest places.

I had forgotten all about Gladys since it's been decades since I've seen an episode of Bewitched. It's amazing what you learn or what you remember from this forum.
