Stay in Kadikoy ?

Jump to last reply

No response to this on TA ? Perhaps Fodors posters have some ideas for us on this question:

We are considering spending our last 4 (Turkish) nights in Kadikoy - however, I have heard that perhaps this isn't such a good idea as this area is just a residential neighborhood, without much for visitors to see or do. According to a friend who spent some time in Istanbul recently, we would just be in a residential neighborhood with little to offer of interest - and so would find ourselves taking the ferry to the European side, with frequency. In that case, would we have wished to have found a hotel in the European side again, and day visited Kadikoy ?

We will have already spent 4 nights in Sultanahamet, several nights in Cappadocia and a couple nights in Selcuk and Pammukale. Would staying in Kadikoy be a good idea to explore a quieter, more 'authentic'...ie less touristy) area - or just a quieter area that we would want to leave by ferry to explore, say, the areas on the other side of the Golden Horn from Sultanhamet...?

Would two mature adults, well-traveled and interested in history and culture and, yes, relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere (May), likely be better off staying in Beyoglu or .Nisantasi or other areas ?

I am grateful for ideas and suggestions,

Differences and preferences notwithstanding, what would this Forum's posters suggest ?
