St-Emilion/wine tours in Oct.
Staying 2 nites mid-Oct in St. Emilion. It appears the wine tours arranged by the Tourist Office in summer months become more limited by then. Any suggestions for the best (i.e., speak English, friendly, close to St. Emilion) chateaux to arrange to visit on our own (or thru the Tourist Office)? Any other "must-do's" for St. Emilion or vicinity? Thanks.

I just wanted to bring this to the top because I'm going to St. Emilion in May and am disappointed the wine tasting courses won't be offered except in July and August at the Masion du Vin etc. I speak french, but my fiance doesn't, so I would like to go somewhere that is friendly and happy to speak english. If you have further suggestions, please share.

I used this site to find a couple of chateaux to visit this fall:
http://www.finest.tm.fr/fr/gironde/s...ion/index.html
We are looking at chateaux in the Gironde, rather than St Emilion, but the parent site is where we did our search.
Also, do a search on the web for Bordeaux chateaux or St Emilion chateaux.
We got immediate fax/email responses and are all set for early October.

This weeks New York Times travel section has a nice article about St Emilion. You can find it on-line at www.nytimes.com.
