I am a teacher who, with my husband's travel points, can go anywhere in the world from March 15-22 (my spring break from school). We've traveled most of Europe and Canada, a bit of Central America and he has been to China and Australia. We only have a week, and it will be cold still in many places.

ADVICE! He's interested in Spain, to which he's never been (I studied there as a junior in college), and I am leaning towards Greece, where I've never been, or somewhere in South America that may be a good deal, like Buenos Aires or Lima.

It would help if you give us an idea of what you are interested in...beaches, archetecture, wine, food, etc....

Southern Spain is about the warmest place in southern Europe but the weather is no where near guaranteed. There is a lot to see in that area: Granada, Seville, Cordoba, Malaga, Ronda, Marbella, Mijas - to name a few places of interest. Greece is my favourite country, however, March is still the off season. For a short trip at this time of year, I would stick to the mainland - Athens and the Argolid part of the Peloponnese which has plenty of historical interest (ie. Mycenae, Epidaurus), beautiful countryside, interesting towns (Nafplio is lovely) and access to an island or two (Poros, Spetses).

Alright, well, we're now between Croatia/Montenegro and Spain. I agree, Spain would still be sketchy, weather-wise, and I have already seen it (he hasn't).

We're both degreed in history, love walking everywhere, architecture and scenery. We'd more tourists than vacationers. We like food, wine and good stories, are in our mid-thirties, no kids. Swimming and beaches are not really our passion, although we don't mind them as part of the scenery.

Hopefully this helps. I've been exploring the Croatia board and we're looking at these Medieval and coastal towns, the less expensive rates, etc.

I was in Andalucia last March and it was wonderful - mid to upper 70s, which I understand is a bit warm for that area in March, but even mid 60's which is more typical would still be wonderful.

I am also a teacher and only have about a week in March (I usually stretch it to 8-10 days) and I've always decided it isn't worth the amount of time and effort to get to Greece/Croatia, etc. Where are you flying from? I'm on the east coast of the US and can get to Spain in just over 6 hours, usually a direct flight, where as to get to Greece looked like it would take well over 12 (with a change somewhere). Also, the Greek ferries are not in full swing yet making an island visit more difficult. That's been my reasoning the last few years for picking Spain/Portugal for my March trips.

Thanks, yes, I too am flying from the east coast, DC. 70's would be lovely. We've taken so many trips in recent spring breaks to ice cold places that I would love one time to have a true spring. Andalucia sounds great, I will start researching now. Any other ideas out their for late March travel?

I can relate to the spring break dilemma, my husband is a teacher. This year we're going to Rome.

I highly recommend Andalucia as a lot can be seen in 8 or 9 days. I'd also recommend Sicily if you have not been there before. I did both in week-long trips (albeit both with my mother oddly enough, and not my husband).
