In early September we will be heading back to London after a week in Cornwall. We wondered if it is better to do the trip in one day and therefore spend the extra night in London (we don't mind the driving involved for the day) OR....
... stay overnight somewhere along the way to experience some of the smaller English towns and Churches, Ruins, quaint pretty villages, etc?
Would we better to spend 5 nights in London rather than 4 and do the trip in one go?
Thanks for any advice
Margaret

Stay overnight somewhere. Bath, Salisbury, Wells come to mind. It means you don't have the hassle of dropping the car off and getting to your London hotel. Just give yourself plenty of time to get to Heathrow and return the car
New Forest? http://www.thenewforest.co.uk/
Dorset might be a nice choice - somewhere near Corfe perhaps, for the ruins. It's very pretty there.
Thanks everyone for your helpful tips
