Checking out the Prado and the Guggenheim for a May visit and I see that there are senior prices. only EU seniors or all of us old people?

thanks, that's what i figured but in italy we got senior prices but then they were small museums in the hinterlands of the south where no one visits.

Why don't you just go and ask them? The website does not say it has to be an EU citizen, in fact, the Thyssen specifically lists two different conditions for seniors vs. Spanish pensioners, and refers to the age criteria simply as for visitors with a valid passport or identity card.

Will you not go if you can't get a discount? Because otherwise, why not just go and see.

On a trip to London and Paris in 2014, a lady of a certain age in our party did get the senior discount. At some locations, we were asked politely if anyone in our party was entitled to a discount, and at others, we asked politely. It cannot hurt to ask.

My mom sometimes gets the senior discount at museums in Spain. She always asks and sometimes she gets it and sometimes does not.

Wrong! As noted, it depends on the museum and the people working the desk. Personally, I have never been turned down by any museum that offers a senior discount. It does help if you happen to speak the language, or at least make some attempt.

Yep, we were there in October the answer was "it depends". As Robert said it seemed to vary based on who was working the desk and how they felt that day, no matter the museum's size or importance. Definitely no harm asking.

I was in Spain in the fall and was never asked for ID when I asked for a senior discount. While I have an English accent, I doubt that was the reason.
