Spain Student Visa - Schengen re-entry + later arrival
Would be super grateful if someone could help me with these questions:
1) I have a Spanish student visa for the period of June 28-December 21. I will arrive in the Schengen area on May 12. If I plan to arrive in Spain in the last week of August, do I need to exit the Schengen area (to the UK for example) and then re-enter in order for my student visa to be valid? If yes, can I transit through France on my way to Spain once I've re-entered Schengen? Do I need a separate visa to transit through France (by train)?
2) Will there be issues for me bureaucratically if I arrive in Spain in late August instead of in late June (which is when my visa was granted for and when my study program was originally meant to start)?
3) I will have a multi-entry student visa to Spain. I will be in Spain after having spent 90 days in the EU (as an Australian citizen). Can I go to other EU countries while on my student visa? Will I need a new, separate Schengen visa?
Immense thanks to whoever can give me some info on these!

Agree with the above. But am curious about the student visa. You say "when my study program was meant to start". If the dates of the study program change would that not require a change in the student visa? I had assumed that the visa dates were based on an approved program - not just coming when you want.

That's fair enough, thanks. In regards to the study program start date, I worded it incorrectly - what I meant was, what happens if something comes up that prevents me from starting my program when it was meant to start and I instead start it in August (also entering Spain only in August)? Would there be any issues with this?

#1 I would advise you to leave Schengen and then re-enter on or after June 28 in order to activate your student visa (type D). While some people get away with just staying on in Schengen, I recommend doing the correct thing to avoid any issues later. You can enter Schengen in France with your Type D visa. There used to be bureaucratic restriction but it has all been swept away in the last few years.
#2 No.
#3 Your type D visa allows you to go to other Schengen states for 90-in-180 days until it expires.
