We are thinking of buying the Spain Pass from Renfe since we are making several trips by train.
Has anyone used this before? It sounds like it is valid for any trip, any time, as long as there's space on the train. We're just wondering if there are any exceptions or situations where the pass can't be used.

You will still need to make reservations on all long and medium distance trains, but other than that it looks like it can be useful under certain circumstances.
I believe you still have to go and actually get tickets for the trains you want.. so unless the train is full, or a sleeper train, you should be OK. If you are doing long trips it will most likely work out less expensive. If you are over 60, then you have the senior card ( 5E) whose discount is also a good deal with no exchange penalties.

If you have a fixed itinerary or any journeys which are fixed and you are not going to 'wing it', compare with greatly discounted advance purchase web fares.
