Spain in May, 2014: PLAN B

Jump to last reply

I asked in a previous message last week for input on a quick first trip to Spain. Thanks for the great feed back, which resulted in the following Plan B.

Back ground: Retired couple, 65+, making first trip to Spain, but we have taken multi trips to Europe, etc.. I don't think this will be our last trip to Spain, so we will stay in Madrid & Andalucía this time around. We are not great museum types. We will visit the Prado, but we would rather visit interesting sites & do a little shopping. Like most of you, I usually do my homework before I go & have a pretty good idea of what we want to do. True confession: I have visited all the continents except Africa, so Tangier is on my bucket list.

Question 1: Will this plan work?
Day 1: Fly to Rota, train to Seville.
Day 2: Seville - usually do Hop On - Hop Off first, then visit sites.
Day 3: Seville
Day 4: Train to Cordoba, tour old town, take late train to Madrid.
Day 5: Madrid - attend Flamenco show this night.
Day 6: Madrid: Day trip to Toledo - take late train back to Madrid.
Day 7: Madrid: Day trip to Segovia.
Day 8: Madrid - attend Bull Fight.
Day 9: Train to Granada - visit Granada.
Day 10: Granada
Day 11: Rent car & drive to Tarifa.
Day 12: Early ferry to Tangier, drive to Cadiz upon return.
Day 13: Return to U.S.

Question 2: We have driven in Ireland, so we are semi-comfortable about renting a car & driving to Tarifa & Cadiz, but I would appreciate some input from those who have driven in Spain.
Question 3: Is May the peak tourist season for Spain? If so, would it make sense to go in the fall & save a few dollars?

Thanks to all for their previous input on our first posting & thanks in advance for your help with this posting. You guys make planning easy & fun.
