Spain 2016
Hola! Was looking to take a trip to Spain at the end of June 2016-mid July with 3 kids age 2,7 and 5 1/2. We had plans To go Barcelona, madrid, San sebastian. However, after looking at madrids current temperatures for this week I am concerned that next year could be that hot. I don't mind heat but 38 degrees Celsius or 102 degrees farenheit too hot for us. we want to enjoy ourselves. Our options are move the trip to easter time and take the kids out of school or omit madrid and go to the northern part of spain which I have never seen but have heard so many good things about. We want to make this as family friendly as possible. I love walking around cities but understand we will need to adjust our travels to meet the kids where they are especially with our almost 3 year old. My kids love swimming and the beach but we also want to explore area on foot. any ideas would be appreciated!

Please note that weather is variable so this years weather has no relation on next year.
Someone will more than likely give you a link to a weather history chart. Well that does not give predictions and only gives you averages of what has occurred.
Today's forecast to SS is 23 Centigrade and early next week it could reach 32.

The weather report I am seeing from the U.S. weather says madrid will be 38 degrees Celsius this week. I am concerned that this is typical. Since our trip is not based around pools I wonder if we should consider changing our trip to Valencia, Barcelona , San sebastian if we decided to go in late june.

While 88 may be the average - that is really very high. You may think you get 88 at home - but I bet the average isn't anywhere near that high. As examples in the US a similar high in July would be found in Atlanta, New Orleans and Florida the averages in NYC, Boston and much of the northern areas is more around 80 - and you probably know how hot that can feel - esp in you are outdoors a lot versus in an AC building.
We were in Madrid in late April once and it was 98/99 all 4 days - way too hot for us. Granted higher than average - but we were ready to leave after 2 days.

All great points nytraveler. Good to know about April travel too. I want my kids to want to go back so a pool to me is necessary. I used to live in philly before kids my husband and I would walk around even in the hot humid summers but I didn't mind especially because my gym had a really nice outdoor pool. So my walks home weren't so bad. With kids though everything changes and if they aren't reasonably comfortable it will be tough. So trying to think ahead to plan the right trip in Spain for where we are now.

Weather forecasting in Spain is not accurate. I can watch several TV channels, look at the national weather website look at others and sometimes they all disagree with each other.
And as I said next year weather will not be the same as this.
There are public pools in Madrid plus some hotels have if you feel you need a dip.

OK, know you can't necessarily base next year on this year, but this was my experience on two trips to Madrid in July a couple of years apart.
First trip, high 90s most days. Mornings were OK, evening fine, mid-day brutal. We spend mid-day in museums or sleeping.
Second trip, a friend in Madrid called me and said, "Please don't come. It is 105, and we are moving a little as possible." We couldn't change tickets, so went anyway and temps dropped to high 80s. We were lucky. We were going for museums and night life anyway.
I love Madrid, but if there was any other choice, would not take three very young children on vacation there in July. Change locations or take them out of school in Spring. Actually, for kids, except for a boat in Retiro Park, I think other places would be more interesting and fun anyway.
If you do go, the castle in Segovia might be interesting and taking the little train through the mountains around Toledo, in the evening would be fun.
