Spain 2 weeks itinerary help
Hi!
I am visiting Spain with my family (husband, son and parents) in the 1st 2 weeks of June.
We enjoy the countryside, cafes, local food, sea, beaches and just experiencing different cultures. We are not too keen on museums.
We like our holidays at a relaxed pace - dont necessaily need to see everything.
Basis various posts and some reading, I have prepared an itinerary.. Would really appreciate some help from fodorites in finalising it.
Day 1 - Land into Madrid by 12 pm.
Day 2 - Day trip to Toledo or Sergovia (A little confused on which one to choose)
Day 3 - In Madrid (Any other suggestions of a day trip - Salamanca?)
Day 4 - In Madrid
Day 5 - Travel to Seville in the morning
Day 6 - In Seville
Day 7 - Day trip to Cordoba (Should I stay overnight or a day trip is good)
Day 8 - Travel to a sea place (Cant decide which one - was thinking of Malaga or Marbella - but not sure.. Was also keen on Granada)
Day 9 - The sea place
Day 10 - The sea place
Day 11 - Day 14 - Barcelona
Day 15 - Evening flight from Barcelona
- What do you feel about the itinerary as a whole?
- Should I drop a day in Barcelona and include a stay at Granada? It sounds lovely.
- What is a good sea place to stay? Should I look at Malaga, Marbella, La Oliva or Valencia? I have read up a little - but am finding it very difficult to choose.. Also La Oliva sounds nice - but since it is an island off the coast, I am not sure how easy would it be to travel there.
Look forward to some help on the plan.
Thanks a lot..
Vins

Salamanca is not a day trip. Stay in Madrid. There is plenty to see there. YES, drop a day from Barcelona and go to Granada but make sure tickets to the Alhambra are available (your trip is June 2015, next month?). On what island is La Oliva ? Never heard of it.

La Oliva is a very small village on the northern end on Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, not quite an easy connection from the mainland, and not quite on the sea, but it is on an island.
It doesn't look like you've given this a whole lot of thought, not with June fast approaching and still without reservations or train tickets, or anything else except maybe your flight.

It looks good but the Barcelona part doesn't make sense.
I don't think of Spain for a beach destination unless it's the North coast. Having said that Cadiz or Malaga are great places on the ocean. I'm partial to Cadiz area for the water. You almost can't go all the way to Andalucia and miss the alhambra. Granada and Seville might be the best part of your trip. I like Toledo because I love el Greco but you can't go wrong with Segovia. Three and a half days is a minimum for Madrid so I would only choose one daytrip.

It looks like you only have 1.5 days in Seville which is not enough at all. A few years back, I spent days in Seville and still felt rushed. So I would suggest to have 2-3 days at least in Seville, especially since you mentioned your style is to travel at a relaxed pace.
For the sea days, suggest you base in Malaga so you can have a bit of sea and the city. For the sea, you can pick up a car and drive to costa del sol from there. Then from Malaga, you can fly to Barcelona (I'm not sure if there are direct high speed trains from Malaga to Barcelona - am guessing you would have to transit in Madrid?).
However, as other fodorites suggested, Granada is a must to see the Alhambra. And to fully enjoy the Alhambra, you need 2 nights there (which is only one full day). Greatly recommend doing both the day and night tour. Before committing to Granada, please check if tickets for your dates are still available!
