Southern Italy or France

I have quite a dilemma. I have the opportunity to either travel to southern France or Southern Italy. I have been to Sorrento-Amalfi Coast area, and loved it. So much so, that I would consider returning and this time traveling to Sicily. However, I've been to Paris but never southern France. Any thoughts on this? If I choose south France, what is a good starting place. We wish not to have a car, but stay somewhere with a great view, food and easy access to some other cities.

It depends on what month and what length of stay, but if

it's not August

and it's more than five days

I vote for the south of France. And consider two "base" locations - - Antibes for 3-7 days, and Arles or Aix-en-Provence for a similar period.

If it's either of the above, I recommend somewhere less than 500 miles from where you live, preferably straight north.

Unless you live in the Southern Hemisphere - - then south.

Best wishes,

Rex
Consider the Islands off the cost of Southern Italy. Stromboli, Salina, Lipari, Valcano, Alliguoh all reachable by SNAV the hydroplane from the mainland and from Sicily.

Ok, Rex, I'll bit. Let's say I live in the south of Chile. Why would I want to go south for my vacation? Especially in August when it's already colder than anything?

Yikes; you're right; you want to go south in the hottest part of summer - - which is February - - not August. My mental lapse.
I would vote for Sicily, this island really has everything: sun, sea, beaches, lots of culture, beautiful nature, charming towns, delicious food, good hotels, friendly people,.... . I just love it!
