I'm flying into Dubrovnik from May 15th to the 22nd. I'd like to do a little island hopping and visit Dubrovnik, Mostar and Kotor. Is this possible in a week? I was thinking I'd use two different bases. Any recommendations on how to do this most efficiently?

It depends on what time you arrive, what time you depart, and if you wish to rent a car. Which island did you have in mind?

I plan to rent a car. I was thinking I'd use Dubrovnik as my first base and spend a day around Kotor and one in the Mostar area.

15th - Dubrovnik (10:30 am)
16th- Kotor
17th - Mostar

Next I plan to make Korcula my base and visit Vis and Mljet

18th - Korcula
19th- Vis
20th- Korcula
21st- Mljet
22nd- Fly back out of Dubrovnik

I need to check ferry schedules but does this look doable?

Not sure--check ferry schedules, but very very doubtful on Vis. Why not enjoy Korcula while you are there???

Do you think I'll want more than 2 full days in Korcula? If needed I could remover either Kotor or Mostar to add another island day. I love historic cities/towns but I'll also be in Germany/Austria during the trip.

I would make more use of the car--perhaps stay overnight in Mostar and tool around Bosnia. There are other options but Vis is too far for a day trip.

Have not been to Mostar. Kotor area could be an alternate to the overnight in Bosnia suggestion. Plenty of scenic drives in its vicinity (around bay, south to Budva, up into the mountains toward Cetinje)!

Depending on your interests and preferred pace, I think that your starting idea – to do a little island hopping and visit Dubrovnik, Mostar and Kotor – could be JUST managable – if you plan it right. But maybe not ....

Will a single night in Dubrovnik, while jet lagged, give you the time you want to see that glorious city?

How are you planning to get from Mostar to Korcula?

Have you already booked your flights? If not, consider flying into Dubrovnik and out of … whatever works for your final plan, and honestly, I can see so many options that I don’t even think I can point to a specific airport.

I agree that it would be difficult to include Vis in this plan.

You do not need 2 nights for Korcula – although many people would find having a second night to be a delight. Your call.

Mostar and Kotor are incredibly different – I think you really need to think about what YOU want to see and experience.

For some of the options you are considering, a car would be a decided disadvantage. And public transportation for much of what you are considering is easy and convenient.

I would strongly encourage you to get a good guidebook – perhaps the Rough Guide – or to consult it at your local library. Identify the things you most want to see in each location, check their opening/closing times on the internet, and mark them on a calendar. Pencil in your transportation, add some time on either side (for getting to/from your lodging, checking in/out, packing/unpacking, getting oriented, etc.). Then determine what you can / can’t do with the time you have.
