South of France in September

Planning my first trip to Europe for Sept. 2013 (I am 60 Years old). Been trying to find a nice place for one night near Baux-de-Provence. 90 % of the hotels I look at say no rooms
available. Is this true? Or am I trying to reserve to early? or is it because I only want one night (Sat, Sept, 7, 2013). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Many hotels will not take reservations over 6 months out.

Barry, have you tried
Mas D' Aigret,La Cabro d'or?
La scatcat, september has more options than the summer months.
I love this area, Les Apilles as it is called.

Yes, you are trying to reserve too early. I'm trying to plan a trip to Provence in late June and am having the same issue. I've sent out several emails to hotels only to receive responses that they have not set they 2013 rates yet and to try back latter. You might find more options for accomadations just north in St. Remy. Those around Les Baux are limited or pricey. I might suggest you try the booking.com site. I've used them with success in numerous locations in Europe. If you wish to see all the potential options in the area, don't put in dates too far out when you're doing a search. IE, put in a date search for latter this month. They also have a great map function which will show all the hotels in given areas even if they aren't available. Good luck on your search and I hope you enjoy Provence.

A lot of hotels in Provence may not take a reservation for one night in high season, also. But I don't think September would be considered that, the summer is. Things can get booked up early there, but this is too early to be booking a hotel for a year from now. I'd start thinking about doing that at the beginning of next year.

You're too early. Many French hotels use a paper or now online version of a booking tool that only allows them to make bookings a few months out. Try again in early spring or even later.

If you find something you really like why not phone? People our age often don't think of it as trans-Atlantic phone rates were once so expensive. These days, I can call from Canada to France for about 6 cents a minute.

I want to thank all of you, that makes a lot of sense to me.
I just couldn't believe all those hotels were full in September. I am particularly enamored with Mas D' Aigret,
from what I have seen on thier web-site.
