My husband, daughter and I are visiting London in June for 6 nights. We have booked an apartment at the Morgan in Bloomsbury for six nights. We will then be going to Spain for a week, where my daughter will be staying for two weeks and we will stay about a week.

I would like to add 3 nights to the front end of our trip and possibly stay in the South Kensington area. We want to try a new area and spend some real time at the 3 museums.
I have read many reviews of hotels in the South Ken area, such as the Regency or the Premier Inn at Earl's Court. I would like to spend a little less than the Morgan's 235 pounds a night and still have a modicum of comfort.

I have thought about renting a flat and just haven't found one in an area that i like as much as Bloomsbury. Our plans this trip include Hampton Court and possibly a day trip to to Cambridge.

We love the location of the Morgan, sitting outside the Museum Tavern, walking to the Perseverance, being around the corner from the BM. I'm just wondering if I'm shortsighted about not renting a flat or missing a good place to stay in South Kensington.

Any recommendations for South Kensington?

If you are going to HCP and Cambridge - you aren't spending very much time in London. So it probably doesn't matter <i>where</i> you stay. Since you like Bloomsbury, and it is on the direct tube line to South Kens/the Museums - stay in Bloomsbury.

Yes, that was my concern, that six days wasn't enough, and that's why I'm looking to add 3 more days.

BTW, janisj, on your recommendation we visited Inchmahome Priory on our trip to Scotland last summer and had a fantastic day. Beautiful place, tranquil and evocative. The whole family was enchanted. Belated thanks for the tip!

Your day trip to Cambridge won't leave by train from a station near South Kens. It'll depart from Liverpool St or King's X and the latter will be thisclose to you if you stay in Bloomsbury but 1/2-way across the city if you're in S. Kens.

Waterloo station (for HCP) is basically equidistant from a Tube standpoint to both Bloomsbury and S Kens and, if you're close to the Northern Line (via Charing X), is a direct shot from a Bloomsbury location.

Earl's Court isn't S Kens, it's farther out and less desirable.

You're welcome - so glad you enjoyed it! It is a very special place for me. Last May I scattered Mom's and Dad's ashes out on the lake between the island and the hotel and this Spring I'm going back again.

I like the Millennium Bailey's in S. Kens. It is right beside the Gloucester Road tube stop which has three lines in it, is in walking distance of the V&A, and has lots of restaurants in the area.

Thank you all, I will certainly check out the Millennium Bailey, and BiggRuss, great information, certainly makes a great case for staying all the time in Bloomsbury.

janicej, when next I visit Inchmahome I know I will think of your parents when we take the little boat to the island.
