I have pretty much worked out my itinerary on the Circle Road clockwise upto Egilsstadir. From there I need some help.
1. Should I drive in one go from Egilsstadir to Skaftafell? From several posts I have seen people have stopped at Hofn.
2. After Skaftafell where would be a good place to stop? Should I perhaps stop in Vik or go a bit further. Looking for nice places to place.
3. Relative to #2. I am looking to do several of the stops on the Golden Circle as I head towards Reykjavik.

1) Hofn is a good place (distance-wise) for a stop, but not a ton to see in the area. If you can take the extra drive, I'd keep going to Skaftafell. We actually did the loop counter-clockwise and drive from Kirkjubæjarklaustur to Eglisstadir. We made numerous stops along the way and still made it to Egilsstadir before dark (and this was in October). We did picnic in Hofn on the way thru.
2) Vik is a nice town with a number of things to do in the area. We actually split our stay in the south between Kirkjubæjarklaustur and Hella. It worked out well for exploring the area south of Reykjavik, the golden circle, and Skaftafell.
3) You could certainly 'do' the golden circle on your way back to Reykjavik from Vik (or wherever).
Since I don't like to drive long distances I think I will add a stop in Hofn. I believe Hofn is one of the jumping off places for a Super Jeep trip on the Vatnajokull Glacer.
I am still trying to get a response from the hotel at Skaftafell. Their website says to contact FossHotels.
Another question. I was planning to also overnight in Vik. Did you stay there? Any recommendations?
Sorry, we didn't stay in Vik. As for the hotel at Skaftafell, I'm not sure if they're open in mid-winter, so that may be the issue.
Skaftafell was very nice. We did a lot of hiking and had great fall foliage (it was mid-October).
