Sorrento to Rome Train? Car?
Around the 22 December 08 my family - 3 adults - need to leave Sorrentowhere we will be based and be in Rome the same day for a flight to Dubai. We will have a car but I can leave it in Sorrento or Naples or Salerno. I invite opinnions on the various options on reaching Rome. Convenience, cost, time. Thanks all.

I also plan to travel in April from Sorrento to Rome and catch a 3 p.m. flight at FCO to Lisbon departing
The Marozzi bus leaves Sorrento (Stn Circumvesuviana) at 6 am arriving Rome at 9:45 a.m. at the Stazione Tiburtina (north-East of the train station). The cost is 17.50 euro. That way I don't have to catch a boat from Sorrento to Naple, then go from the wharf to the train station and then take a train to Rome.

From the bus station in Rome I arranged for a car to pick us up at 12 noon to go to the FCO airport for 40 euros. That way we have some time between 10-12 noon for a quick bit around the bus station.

I'm planning a trip to Amalfi Coast and this forum is very helpful
Remember to take your contact lens solution. My small bottle of Clear Care passed on one trip out of Belfast but the following week, it was taken away from me at security.
I had to buy a large bottle of it in Nice for $50 which would have paid for 2 nice bottles of wine!
Large zip-lock bags are great for encasing bottles of booze in the suitcase and small ones are great for snacks, washcloths, etc.
Use talcum powder in shoes and on feet to help prevent blisters.
Many airports sell sandwiches to take on board your flight in Europe or you can take fruit/ cheese/ bread/ snacks that you've purchased at the local grocery. Just make sure you eat it all before you land - re: your country's laws on bringing in food products. Usually we have a little fancy cheese, crackers, fruit party on the plane and then we don't have to eat the gunky pasta with one piece of Chicken? (Who knows what it is.)...with the sloppy veggies.
Flights within Europe don't often provide free food/snacks and it's wonderful to end your holiday with something worth eating.

Since you already will have a car, the most convenient option is simply to drive yourself to the Rome airport (I assume FCO for Dubai). I think public transportation choices will be more stressful, and certainly more time consuming.

Hi O,
For a late afternoon or evening flight, I would drive.
It's 3 hr from Sorrento to Fiumicino airport by car.
Leave yourself an hour to drop off the car and 3 hr to get through security, etc.
